Illinois Wesleyan prepares for home opener against Principia after road series

After an 11-game road trip, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team is set to play its first home game against Principia College on Tuesday, March 18. The game will take place at Jack Horenberger Field with a start time of 5 p.m.

The Titans currently hold a 5-6 record, having played five games last week in Fort Myers, Florida, as part of the Gene Cusic Classic. During this event, they faced five teams and concluded with a 2-3 record for the week.

In their most recent match on Friday, March 14, Illinois Wesleyan narrowly lost to Alfred State College with a score of 5-4. Junior Cole Shamhart from Oak Park was the starting pitcher and managed two strikeouts over five innings. Senior Cade Tomhave from Pittsfield contributed by going two-for-three and adding a run batted in.

The Titans secured two wins during their trip by outscoring opponents 25-5. They defeated Baruch College with a commanding score of 20-3 and won against Skidmore College 5-2. Senior Justin Gadomski from Schaumburg had an impressive performance against Baruch, going five-for-five with four runs scored and five runs batted in.

On the season overall, junior Gage Wolfe from Bloomington leads the team in batting percentage at .478, closely followed by Tomhave at .471. In pitching stats, junior Jake Pullam from Palatine holds a leading ERA of 2.40 and maintains an undefeated record of 3-0 this season.

This upcoming game marks the first meeting between the Titans and Principia Panthers in program history. Principia enters with a record of 2-8 and is looking to break a five-game losing streak since their last win on March 1.
