Senior Mia Fiandaca of St. Charles, Illinois, was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, April 30. This recognition comes a day after she was awarded the title of Defensive Player of the Year by the same conference. Fiandaca has now received the weekly accolade twice this season, previously earning it on March 4, marking the sixth time in her career.
Fiandaca played a crucial role in leading the Titans to a 20-4 victory over Elmhurst University on April 26. The win was significant, being the team's Senior Day. During her last regular season game at Tucci Stadium, Fiandaca delivered an outstanding performance, scoring five goals, causing eight turnovers, collecting five ground balls, and achieving four draw controls without committing any turnovers.
In this game, Fiandaca set a new program record for single-season caused turnovers, surpassing the previous record of 50 set last year. Heading into the CCIW Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday, she is seven caused turnovers away from breaking the program's career record.
The Titans will face Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in a match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Art Keller Field on April 30.
