The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to embark on a weekend road trip, facing off against teams in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Titans, currently holding a 3-4 record, will compete against Augsburg College on Saturday, March 22, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Sunday, March 23. Both matches are scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
Coming off a recent defeat by Calvin University with a score of 19-4 on Wednesday, March 19, the Titans aim to bounce back this weekend. Junior Sadie Newton from Bloomington led the team during that match with two goals. Alongside her, junior Prissilla Tucker from Santa Rosa also contributed significantly with three draw controls and achieved a career-high three caused turnovers. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk from Lake Zurich demonstrated defensive strength by securing six ground balls and making 20 saves.
Offensively, seniors Mia Fiandaca and Avery Setzler have been key players for the Titans this season. Both have accumulated 15 points each. Fiandaca has scored all her points through goals, leading the team with 15 goals overall. Setzler follows closely with 12 goals and three assists. Junior Carleigh Fountain holds third place in both points and goals for the team.
Freshman Maddie Gibson has made an impressive start by leading the squad with six assists. Other notable contributors include juniors Anelise DiGiovanni and Carly Bajusz who have provided five assists each.
Fiandaca stands out defensively as well with significant contributions of 30 ground balls and causing 31 turnovers this season. Newton follows closely behind in both categories alongside other teammates.
In goalkeeping duties for Illinois Wesleyan, Rymarcsuk has maintained a .453 save percentage across over six hours of playtime this season.
This weekend's game against Augsburg marks their third encounter; previously, Illinois Wesleyan secured victories in both meetings including a decisive win last year on March 4th where they triumphed over Augsburg by scoring 22-8.
Meanwhile, UW-Stevens Point's women's lacrosse program is relatively new having started just last season; they face IWU for the first time after recently experiencing a narrow loss to Elmhurst University earlier this week.
Both games are available via live stream for fans unable to attend in person.
