The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team split a doubleheader against Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The Titans lost the first game 8-7 but rebounded to win the second game 11-4. This result leaves Illinois Wesleyan with a 7-7 record for the season, while Wabash stands at 8-6.

In the first game, junior Cole Shamhart started on the mound for Illinois Wesleyan and was relieved by juniors Nathan Waterman and Luke Costello, as well as sophomore Caleb Martinez. Despite nine hits and seven runs from the Titans, including contributions from senior Jimmy Gurgone who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, they fell short after leading late in the ninth inning.

"The Titans struck first in the top of the first inning," but were unable to maintain their lead as Wabash responded with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Although Illinois Wesleyan managed to score again and even led 8-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, Wabash rallied to secure an 8-7 victory.

In contrast, Illinois Wesleyan dominated in game two. Junior Will Davidsmeier earned his first win of the season as starting pitcher with a strong seven-inning performance. Senior Brady Hartman provided relief pitching for two innings.

Offensively, senior Tyler Woltman excelled with three hits and three RBIs. "As a team, Illinois Wesleyan racked up 12 hits and 11 runs," capitalizing on eight walks from Wabash pitchers.

The Titans will host Wabash for another matchup at Jack Horenberger Field on Sunday, March 23. Due to weather conditions, the game's start time has been moved from noon to 2 p.m.
