The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team, ranked fourth nationally, concluded the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational with a strong performance. The Titans secured sixth place in a competitive 30-team field, finishing with a three-day score of 864 after an impressive seven-under 281 on the final day.
Senior Griffin Pohl from Western Springs, Illinois, led the team's efforts by carding a two-under 70, securing second place in the 150-player event. He was just one stroke shy of the medalist position and achieved a career-low total of 207 over 54 holes.
Junior Michael Spitzer tied for 22nd place with a cumulative score of 217 after shooting a final round of 73. Aidan Healy, another junior, recorded his best career score with a final round of 66, matching Pohl's opening round as the weekend's top score for Illinois Wesleyan. Healy finished tied for 50th. Freshman Pablo Castro ended up sharing the 44th spot with scores totaling to 221.
In parallel competition at the Jekyll Island Individual Tournament, junior Juney Bai emerged victorious among a field of 24 players. Bai claimed medalist honors by seven strokes and achieved his personal best with a total score of 213 across three rounds.
The tournament was won by No.11 Huntingdon College with an overall score of 855. Second place went to No.2 Washington & Lee with an aggregate score of 858. Emory University took third place at 860, while Methodist and Sewanee shared fourth place at 863 each.
Illinois Wesleyan will have a brief respite before hosting their own IWU Invite from April 4-5 at Ironwood Golf Course and Weibring Golf Course.
