The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team achieved a significant milestone by sweeping the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week honors for the first time since March 19, 2024. The announcement was made by the league, highlighting junior Sadie Newton as the offensive player of the week and senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk as the defensive recipient.
This achievement follows a successful week where both players contributed to leading their team to a 2-1 record. This marks head coach Abby Kushina's first weekly award sweep during her tenure. Senior Mia Fiandaca also received recognition earlier this season, securing defensive player of the week honors on March 4.
Newton earned her first career weekly award after scoring nine goals over three games, averaging three per game. She also contributed three assists and accumulated 12 points throughout the week. Additionally, she recorded 17 draw controls, eight ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
During a match against Calvin University on March 19, Newton scored two goals and added three ground balls with three caused turnovers. At Augsburg University on March 22, she had a standout performance with six goals and two assists for a career-high eight points in their decisive win. She concluded her week with another solid performance at UW-Stevens Point.
Rymarcsuk secured her second career weekly honor by delivering strong performances in goal across all matches. Over the week, she totaled 33 saves with an average save percentage of .569 while also contributing eight ground balls and causing one turnover.
Her efforts included making 20 saves against Calvin University—just one shy of her personal best—and additional notable performances at Augsburg University and UW-Stevens Point.
The Illinois Wesleyan Titans are scheduled to play next at DePauw University on Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m. ET.
