The Illinois State Redbirds have seen four of their basketball players recognized for their academic achievements. Johnny Kinziger, Ty Pence, Landon Wolf, and Dalton Banks were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team. Among them, Kinziger stands out as an Academic All-America finalist.
Kinziger hails from De Pere, Wisconsin, and has been a key player for the Redbirds this season. He is second in scoring with an average of 14.7 points per game and has made significant contributions with 96 assists and 76 three-pointers at a shooting percentage of .394. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team before the MVC Tournament. Throughout the season, he scored in double figures in 28 out of 33 games.
Sophomore Ty Pence from St. Joseph, Illinois, averages 7.1 points per game and contributes with 3.9 rebounds per game. He also has provided 48 assists and secured 21 steals while maintaining a shooting accuracy of 51 percent from the field.
Landon Wolf, a redshirt junior from Cedar Falls, Iowa, received his third career CSC Academic All-District honor this year. He averages 6.7 points per game along with collecting 105 rebounds and distributing 26 assists during the season.
Dalton Banks is a senior originating from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. His defensive prowess earned him a place on the All-Missouri Valley Conference All-Defensive Team this season with his record-tying achievement of 61 steals being noteworthy in school history. Offensively, he averages 10.2 points per game while achieving high shooting efficiency at nearly fifty percent.
The Redbirds currently hold a record of 20-14 this season and are set to compete against UIW Cardinals in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational on Tuesday evening.
