The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team faced a challenging game against DePauw University, resulting in an 18-3 defeat. This marks the team's fifth consecutive away game and brings their season record to 5-5, while DePauw improves to 4-4.
Five players from the Titans managed to score during the match. Goals were contributed by juniors Sarah Riepe, Anelise DiGiovanni, and Carleigh Fountain. Freshman Makenna McVey achieved her first collegiate assist, with senior Avery Setzler also assisting on a goal.
Junior Sadie Newton led the team with four draw controls. Both Riepe and junior Prissilla Tucker recorded three ground balls each. On defense, Riepe, Tucker, and Newton each caused two turnovers. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk was credited with the loss after making 13 saves over 45 minutes as goalkeeper. Freshman Marli Brown completed the game in goal for IWU, achieving a career-best of three saves.
After conceding eight goals initially, IWU's first score came from a turnover caused by Setzler, allowing McVey to assist Riepe for a goal at 11:12 remaining in the second quarter. DiGiovanni scored next with an assist from Setzler, reducing the gap to 8-2 before halftime.
Despite efforts to recover, IWU could not close the deficit and ended with an 18-3 loss.
The Titans will return home for their next game against the College of Wooster on March 29 at Tucci Stadium. This will be their first home game since March 2. Prior to the match start at 11 a.m., they will honor Britney Maldonado for her exceptional senior season achievements.
