The Illinois State track and field team is preparing to kick off its 2025 outdoor season with participation in three separate events over the weekend. The team will be divided among different locations, competing from Wednesday through Saturday.
A group of athletes will travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas. This event begins on Wednesday with women's heptathlon and men's decathlon, continuing until Saturday. Running events are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Another contingent will head to St. Louis, Missouri, for the WashU Distance Carnival organized by Washington University in St. Louis. This meet is set to commence at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday and will pick up again at 10:45 a.m. on Friday.
Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Illinois State squad will remain in Normal to host their own Redbird Challenge. This two-day event starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and resumes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Reflecting on last year's performances, Sophomore Jacob Klink and Senior Sean Hopkins were standout performers with each securing top-10 marks in their respective events. Klink achieved a top-10 list entry for men's shot put with a throw measuring 17.80 meters (58-4.75), while Hopkins clinched victory in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.47 meters (24-6.25).
