Illinois State University's softball team clinched a doubleheader victory against UIC at Marian Kneer Stadium in Normal, Illinois. The home team, known as the Redbirds, achieved wins in both games of the day, aided by grand slams in each match.

In the first game, Illinois State secured an 11-3 win, concluding in five innings. A major highlight was a grand slam by Lexie Griffin, who came off the bench as a pinch hitter. This was part of a high-scoring first inning where the Redbirds managed to get an early lead.

The second game saw the Redbirds secure a 5-2 victory against UIC, turning the tide with a late-game grand slam by Ella Boyer. The Redbirds trailed for most of the game but clinched victory with Boyer's decisive hit.

The victories bring the Redbirds to a season record of 10-23, with a 4-5 record in the MVC, and improving their recent record to winning four of their last five games. "The 11 runs scored in game one is the most by the Redbirds this season, and the grand slams were the first for ISU since the 2023 season," the release noted.

In the second game, the Flames initially led 2-0. However, ISU pulled back one run in the third inning and eventually seized the lead with Boyer's home run in the sixth inning. The Redbirds closed out the game without further incident to sweep the doubleheader.

Both teams will face off again in a final match set for Saturday at Marian Kneer Stadium.
