Illinois State women's tennis defeats Drake Bulldogs 5-2

The Illinois State women's tennis team defeated the Drake Bulldogs by a score of 5-2 on Sunday at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois. The victory improves the Redbirds' record to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), while the Bulldogs fall to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in the MVC.

In doubles play, the Redbirds secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli won 6-3 against Drake's Jessica Popiol and Laura Koralnik. The team of Emma Lindh and Elena Jankulovka won narrowly with a 6-4 victory.

During singles play, Illinois State earned four wins. Silvia Pomarolli defeated Jessica Popiol 6-3, 7-6 (1). At the No. 2 position, Lana Caculovic beat Elizabete Klavinska 6-2, 6-1. Nuria Sanz secured a 6-2, 6-3 win, and Nicole Iosio defeated Nicole Lee 6-2, 6-2.

The doubles results were as follows: Caculovic and Pomarolli defeated Popiol and Koralnik 6-3. Lindh and Jankulovska won against Lee and Tess Caldicott 6-4. Jana Ruzic and Shiori Takeda of Drake defeated Sanz and Iosio 6-7 (5).

In singles results, Pomarolli won against Popiol 6-3, 7-6 (1), and Caculovic defeated Klavinska 6-2, 6-1. Takeda won against Lindh 6-4, 7-6 (5), and Sanz beat Caldicott 6-2, 6-3. Ruzic versus Jankulovska ended 6-3, 4-6, RET, and Iosio defeated Lee 6-2, 6-2.

Next, Illinois State will travel to face Murray State Racers on April 4 at Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts.
