The Illinois State men's golf team concluded their participation in the Memphis Intercollegiate, finishing in ninth place. The competition, held in Cordova, Tennessee, saw Alex McCulla leading the Redbirds, tying for seventh individually.
The tournament was dominated by nationally-ranked Illinois, who secured the team title with a total score of 878. They outpaced Memphis, the host, which finished with a score of 883. The remaining teams in the top positions included Southern Miss, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Western Kentucky, Samford, and Dayton, all ahead of Illinois State's final score of 922.
McCulla posted a three-round score of 221, five strokes over par. His performance included two birdies on the final day, contributing to his seventh-place tie. Pietro Pontiggia finished tied for 35th with a score of 231, featuring two birdies in his final round.
Freshman Max Faucquez completed the event tied for 46th, posting a closing score of 234. Fellow team member Will Troy ended his tournament tied for 58th with a total of 238, delivering his best round on the final day. TJ Barger concluded his rounds with a total score of 239, tying for 62nd place.
The team next competes at the Kishwaukee Intercollegiate on April 5.
