One day after delivering the first perfect game of her college career, junior Gianna Certa from Third Lake, Illinois, received recognition from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin on March 31. This marks the fifth occasion Certa has been honored with a weekly league award.
Certa achieved a 1.81 earned run average during 19.1 innings pitched over four appearances. She recorded a 3-0 win-loss record along with one save, striking out a total of 15 batters and not allowing any walks. In a notable performance against Lake Forest, Certa managed to strike out six Foresters over six innings, culminating in the program's first perfect game since 2020.
Certa also secured victories against Illinois College and Wartburg, and attained a save in the first game of a doubleheader against Lake Forest on March 30.
The Illinois Wesleyan team is set to play at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a doubleheader this Thursday, April 3. The games, originally scheduled for April 2, are planned to begin with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
