The Illinois State Redbirds conducted their second spring scrimmage at Hancock Stadium on Saturday morning. The scrimmage concluded in just over an hour with temperatures adding a brisk element to the session. This is part of their Spring Camp, which will wrap up with the Spring Showcase scrimmage at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
The Redbirds engaged in various game scenarios during the scrimmage, including field drives, red zone plays, and two-minute drills. Michael Cosentino opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal after a 15-play drive. Later, Victor Dawson, a transfer running back, marked the Redbirds' first touchdown with a five-yard run during the Red Zone period.
Cosentino added another field goal, this time from 27 yards, during the second drive-the-field period. Dawson was successful again in the overtime period, scoring his second touchdown with a three-yard run. The final score came when quarterback Beckham Pellant executed a 24-yard pass to Gavin Camp, then ran the ball himself for a touchdown.
In passing, Beckham Pellant recorded 217 yards and one rushing touchdown, completing 32 of 40 passes. Victor Dawson added 25 rushing yards with two touchdowns from 11 carries. Seth Glatz led with 39 yards from 9 carries. Among receivers, Eddie Kasper had 73 yards from 7 receptions.
Defensively, Mason Kaplan was notable with nine tackles and 2.5 tackles-for-loss. Tye Niekamp contributed with seven tackles, one sack, and a pass breakup.
