The Illinois State men's tennis team faced the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in Grand Forks, resulting in a 5-2 defeat for the Redbirds. The match unfolded at the Choice Health and Fitness Center on Saturday, April 5.
In doubles play, Illinois State secured a point through the efforts of juniors Adrian Dibildox from Monterrey, Mexico, and Tomas Valencia from Santiago, Chile, who achieved a 6-4 victory. Freshman Christian Capacci from Forlimpopoli, Italy, and Manuel Pavia from Lana, Italy, also contributed with a win against North Dakota’s Leo Galliano and Jerall Yasin, ending with a score of 7 (9)- 6 (7).
The singles matches saw North Dakota dominating five out of six competitions. The lone victory for the Redbirds was earned by Caden Scarlett from Evansville, Indiana, who defeated UND’s Alex Christos in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 6 position.
The Birds will next face Oral Roberts at home on April 12, with the match scheduled at the Evergreen Racquet Club. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Illinois State will await their standing for the Summit League Championships taking place from April 18-19 in Denver, Colorado, hosted by Denver University.
