The Illinois State Track & Field program will host the Normal Invite this weekend at the Redbird Track & Field Complex in Normal, Illinois. The event will kick off on Friday with the hammer throw at 2 p.m.
This year marks the inaugural Normal Invite and the first time Illinois State hosts a mid-April meet since 2022. The Redbirds are coming off a strong performance at the Joe Walker Invitational at Ole Miss, where the team achieved four new top-10 list entries and several personal bests.
Junior Yusuf Baig made a notable impact last Friday, clocking the 10th fastest men's 1500m time in Redbird history at 3:47.12 and finishing in fifth place. The men's 4x100m relay team, composed of Reed, Nwagwu, Paul, and Curtis, achieved a second-place finish on Saturday with a time of 40.45, tying for the sixth-fastest in program history.
Additionally, the men's 4x400m relay team, with members Welch, Nwagwu, Paul, and Watson, recorded a season-best time of 3:09.35 for any Illinois State 4x400m team. Their performance ranks seventh in Redbird history.
Sophomore Garrett Taylor closed the event in Oxford by entering the top-10 list for men's shot put with a throw of 17.04m (55-11), now placing him 10th in Illinois State's record books for both indoor and outdoor categories.
