Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team in strong position after day one at Ironwood

Illinois Wesleyan University's women's golf team stands in a strong position after the first round of the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course. The team is ranked 18th and trails by only three strokes following an opening round score of 302. The competition is led by St. Kate's, ranked 10th, with a score of 299. Aurora and Grinnell are tied for third, and UW-Whitewater occupies the fifth position.

Sophomore player Nora Cerroni, from Waukesha, Wisconsin, led the Illinois Wesleyan team with a score of 73, placing her in a tie for fourth place. Her performance included birdies on the 11th and 12th holes. Freshman Gigi Zera and senior Macy Ludwig each registered scores of 75 and 76, respectively, further supporting their team's strong position.

Additionally, seniors Jadyn Spinks and Jacque O'Neill both scored 78, placing them tied for 20th place. These consistent performances have resulted in five Illinois Wesleyan players making it into the top 20 individuals.

"We are pleased with our team's performance so far," shared Illinois Wesleyan's representative. As the second round approaches, "Live scoring can be found on the Scoreboard powered by Clippd" to keep track of the developments as they happen.

The second round will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start, providing an opportunity for Illinois Wesleyan and its competitors to improve their standings.
