The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team emerged victorious over Carthage College on April 27, 2025, securing at least a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Regular Season Championship. The Titans defeated the Firebirds in two games, ending 8-1 and 2-1, respectively. Illinois Wesleyan's victory improved their overall record to 29-7 and an unbeaten 12-0 in conference play. The defeats left Carthage College at 24-13 overall and 10-6 in CCIW competition.

In the first game, Illinois Wesleyan scored eight runs to Carthage's one. The Titans' efforts were bolstered by junior Gianna Certa from Third Lake, Illinois, who delivered an impressive full seven innings on the mound, allowing only one run on four hits. The team capitalized on Carthage's defensive errors and offensive lulls, with junior Anna Beckman from Bourbonnais, Illinois, contributing significantly with three hits and three RBIs.

During the second game, a strong pitching performance was evident, with sophomore Mallory Holland from Shelbyville, Illinois, offsetting Carthage's lineup alongside Certa. Despite Carthage taking an initial lead, Beckman's hit drove home two late-game runs, securing a narrow victory for Illinois Wesleyan. The Titans demonstrated effectiveness in keeping highly-effective batter Clare Rettler from the Firebirds to just three hits out of eight at-bats across both games.

Illinois Wesleyan's victory sets up a critical matchup against Augustana College on April 30. The outcomes of this game will determine which team will host the upcoming CCIW Tournament and claim the top seed outright or share the title.
