The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team secured a victory over Carroll University with a 6-3 win in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin road game on Tuesday, April 30. The Titans now hold a 23-13 record for the season and 13-4 in conference play, while the Pioneers' record drops to 16-21 overall and 7-13 in the CCIW.

Junior pitcher Jake Pullam from Palatine, Illinois, started the game for Illinois Wesleyan, pitching seven strong innings and striking out seven. Junior Luke Costello from Downers Grove, Illinois, closed the game by pitching the final 1.2 innings, adding two strikeouts.

At the plate, senior Cade Tomhave and sophomore John Philip Ferraro led the Titans. Tomhave scored two runs, while Ferraro scored twice and drove in five RBIs, including a home run.

Carroll initially took the lead in the second inning with a solo home run. However, Illinois Wesleyan responded in the third inning with Ferraro's bases-clearing double after senior Justin Gadomski's single and Tomhave’s successful bunt loaded the bases.

Gage Wolfe added to Illinois Wesleyan’s lead in the third inning with an RBI single, bringing the score to 4-1. Ferraro later extended the lead with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

Carroll University tried to rally in the ninth inning, scoring two runs to narrow the score to 6-3, but Costello held firm to close the game.

The Titans anticipate continuing their winning momentum in their upcoming game against Carthage College on Friday, May 2, at Augie Schmidt Field.
