Illinois Wesleyan University's men's golf team has achieved a notable distinction, tying for the most selections nationally in the NCAA Division III PING All-Region teams. The Golf Coaches Association of America announced these selections at the national championship banquet on May 18. Illinois Wesleyan, ranked fifth, placed five golfers on the GCAA PING All-Region V squad, matching Methodist and Rochester for the highest number of selections.
The team's standout players include seniors Quinn Clifford and Griffin Pohl, along with juniors Michael Spitzer and Juney Bai, who are repeat recipients of this honor. Junior Aidan Healy received this recognition for the first time. Clifford, Pohl, and Bai have now been selected three times as all-region picks, while Spitzer earned his second consecutive accolade.
Quinn Clifford has had an impressive season, placing in the top-20 in nearly every tournament he participated in. "Clifford has averaged 71.5 strokes per round over 27 rounds this season," according to the release. His best performance was a seven-under 65 at the NCAA Division III Preview on September 22.
Griffin Pohl is having a remarkable senior year and was named CCIW Men's Golfer of the Year. "He carries a 71.2 stroke average per round over 27 rounds," states the announcement. Pohl's achievements include five top-10 finishes and a victory at the Wabash Invitational.
