Illinois Wesleyan University junior defenseman Billy McHugh has been named an All-America Honorable Mention by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). The announcement was made on Thursday, May 22. This marks the first national recognition for McHugh, who transferred to Illinois Wesleyan and is now part of a tradition where Titans have earned All-American status for five consecutive seasons. Previous honorees include Max Bousky and Rick Smith in 2021, Carson Kiichle and Gage Black in 2023, and Michael Campagna in 2024.
During his junior year, McHugh became a key player in the Titans' defense. His performance earned him First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors as he contributed to the team's CCIW Regular Season and Tournament victories, leading to their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance. McHugh's defensive skills were evident with his record of 22 caused turnovers and 40 ground balls. He also scored 13 points with ten goals and three assists.
McHugh is one of six student-athletes from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin recognized by USILA this year. Other athletes include Eli Spence, Tony Vasquez, Matt Koshiol from Elmhurst University; Ben Krok from Carthage College; and Aidan Murphy from North Central College.
