With the fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team nearing the end of the final round at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, play was halted due to darkness on Thursday, May 22. Illinois Wesleyan will enter the last day trailing by two strokes with a total score of 1037.
Top-ranked Methodist started strong in the final round, achieving nine-under par so far, moving ahead of IWU. Methodist has completed more than half of the final round and finished six holes short of a full round. Second-ranked Washington & Lee is closer to completing play and currently sits in third place. Emory, ranked third, and Carnegie Mellon, ranked eleventh, complete the top five. Lynchburg's Edward Coffren leads the individual leaderboard at seven-under par with two holes remaining in his 72-hole tour.
Junior Michael Spitzer from Hinsdale Central and senior Griffin Pohl from Lyons Township are both in the top-20 individually. Spitzer has nine holes left to play and is two-under through the front nine of the final round, tying for 10th at four-over for the tournament. Pohl aims to break into the top-10 during his last 10 holes tomorrow; he is currently tied for 15th at five-over par.
