State Senator Chris Balkema from Channahon expressed his concerns following the passage of Illinois' largest budget in history, amounting to over $55 billion. The budget was passed by Illinois Democrats, and Senator Balkema criticized the process and its implications.
Senator Balkema stated, "Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats have passed the largest budget in our state’s history, over $55 billion in spending, pushed through without transparency."
He emphasized that the budget represents a missed opportunity for fiscal responsibility. "This budget is a missed opportunity for efficiency and fiscal responsibility. With no relief, it doubles down on unchecked spending and more taxes on families who are already struggling," he remarked.
The senator highlighted that since Governor Pritzker assumed office, state spending has surged by nearly 40 percent. He questioned whether family incomes have increased at a similar rate. "Has the average family’s paycheck kept pace? No, it hasn’t," he said. He further criticized the continued tax increases and government expansion under Democratic leadership without improved outcomes.
Balkema concluded by advocating for better governance for Illinois families. "Illinois families deserve better. They deserve a government that respects taxpayers by being transparent, accountable, and efficient. That’s why I voted no on this budget."
