City of Pontiac City Council met May 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the Pontiac City Council was held on May 19, 2025. Mayor Eckhoff called to order the meeting of the City Council at 7:00 P.M.

The City Clerk was directed to call roll, and the following members of the Council were present: Barr, Giovanini, Kallas, Causer, Lee, Bradshaw, Cranford, Howard and Wille.

REGULAR AGENDA

A. Summer Events Lineup - Community Enrichment

Liz Vincent, Director of Community Enrichment, presented the summer events happening in downtown Pontiac this summer.

No Vote.

B. Ordinance 2025-0-011

Presentation was given by Greg Knowles regarding the ordinance for a two (2) foot setback. Discussion was held regarding this ordinance.

Motion was made Causer, seconded by Barr to approve the two (2) foot setback in ordinance 2025-O-011. On a roll call vote motion carried 6 Aye, 2 Nay. Aye votes recorded. Barr, Giovanini, Lee, Causer, Cranford and Wille. Nay votes recorded. Bradshaw and Howard.

C. Mayor Pro Tem Election

Mayor Eckhoff discussed who the pro tem would be if she was unable to do so. Discussion

was had and Alderman Wille was recommended.

Motion was made by Causer, seconded by Bradshaw to approve Alderman John Wille be pro tem mayor. On a roll call vote motion carried 7-0. Wille abstained. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Lee, Causer, Cranford and Howard.

D. Ordinance 2025-0-010

During the last city council meeting the council agreed to take this item to the Finance committee. A meeting was held and with changes made to the ordinance, discussion was held.

Motion was made by Causer and seconded by Barr to vote in ordinance 2025-0-010. On a roll call vote, motion carried 8-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Lee, Causer, Cranford, Bradshaw, Howard and Wille.

E. Committee Report

The Finance Committee met on May 14, 2025, and discussed the manufactured home amendment, neighborhood golf carts, engineering staff, and food trucks downtown. No vote.

F. Sewer Department

Brad Duncan from the Sewer department gave a presentation to approve of the purchase of new lab equipment for testing to meet city requirements. Discussion was held.

Motion was made by Causer, seconded by Cranford to approve the purchase of new lab equipment for testing. On a roll call vote, motion carried 8-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Lee, Causer, Cranford, Bradshaw, Howard and Wille.

G. Tub Grinding agreement

Chris Brock the street superintendent gave an update on the contract with Trost Tree Service. He is looking for the approval to continue the contract.

Motion was called by Howard, seconded by Lee ton continue the contract with Trost

Tree Service. On a roll call vote, motion carried 8-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Lee, Causer, Cranford, Bradshaw, Howard and Wille.

H. Resolution 2025-R-2003

A resolution was presented to the council for a conference being put on by the Illinois Municipal League in September stating that it would be beneficial for the city that the mayor, elected officials, and certain members of the city staff attend the conference. Motion was called by Causer, seconded by Cranford to provide funding for city staff to attend the conference. 8-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Lee, Causer, Cranford, Bradshaw, Howard and Wille.

Mayor Comments

Mayor Eckhoff gave an update on the application for Ward 2 vacancies.

Administrator Comments

Jim Woolford thanked the police and firefighters for the quickness at the porch fire on Water Street.

Council Comments

Alderman Howard and Cranford have been getting complaints about the overgrown yards in their ward.
