For the first time, three members of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team have been named First Team Academic All-America by College Sports Communicators. Seniors Quinn Clifford and Griffin Pohl, along with junior Juney Bai, received this honor as announced on July 9.
Quinn Clifford has made history as the first three-time recipient from the program. He joins former Titan Rob Wuethrich as one of only two golfers from IWU to receive multiple awards. Pohl and Bai are first-time recipients, bringing IWU's total number of Academic All-America honors to 172.
The university's list now ranks in the top-25 across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and is in the top-10 for Division III. During the 2024-25 academic year, 12 Titans have received CSC Academic All-America honors, surpassing last year's record of ten.
Clifford completed his business degree with a perfect GPA of 4.00 and participated in 11 tournaments this year with an average score of 72.8 strokes per round. He achieved five top-10 finishes and won at the Take Back the Night Challenge on April 26.
Griffin Pohl ended his career with a personal best scoring average of 72.1 over 31 rounds during his senior season. He was voted CCIW Men's Golfer of the Year and achieved a notable eight-under-par round at the Take Back the Night Challenge on April 25.
Juney Bai maintained a GPA of 4.00 while earning All-CCIW and GCAA PING All-Region honors in his junior year. His performance included eight top-10 finishes out of eleven tournaments played.
This trio contributed significantly to one of IWU's best seasons in recent history, winning five tournaments and achieving their highest NCAA Championship finish since their national title win in 2021.
