Illinois State University’s football team has moved up to No. 4 in the latest AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll after defeating Morehead State 41-13 at home. This marks the Redbirds’ highest ranking since 2015, when they reached as high as No. 2 nationally.
The Redbirds are among seven teams from the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) listed in this week’s poll. North Dakota State holds the top position with 24 first-place votes, followed by South Dakota State in second place and Illinois State at fourth. Other MVFC teams in the rankings include Southern Illinois (No. 14), North Dakota (No. 17), South Dakota (No. 20), and Youngstown State (No. 25).
In addition to their standing in the coaches poll, Illinois State is ranked No. 7 for a second consecutive week in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll.
The Redbirds, now holding a record of 1-1, will face Eastern Illinois (also at 1-1) on Saturday in Charleston for the annual Mid-America Classic, marking the rivalry’s 113th meeting.
