Illinois Wesleyan men’s tennis advances to doubles consolation final at ITA Regional

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team continued its participation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional at Kalamazoo College on Saturday, September 27.

In doubles competition, seniors Ian Turnbull and Griffin Hammond advanced through the consolation bracket. They narrowly defeated Jacob and Josh Doyle of Albion College, 8-7 (3), in the round of 16. The pair then won their quarterfinal match against Ernesto Botero Diaz and Jesus Soto Bossa from Principia College with a score of 8-2. Due to a walkover in a match originally scheduled for Sunday, September 28, Turnbull and Hammond progressed to the consolation finals over Phillip Wottgen and Rafael Lessa. They will face either Jacob Patterson and Aryan Ganapathy Kallambella from Denison University or Alexander Feher and Tanay Sharma from Illinois Institute of Technology. The final is set for tomorrow at 9 a.m.

In singles play, Turnbull was eliminated after an 8-4 loss to Joao Henrique Nassar from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the consolation round of 32. Junior Thad Dillow secured an 8-4 win over Jake Lasceki of Alma College before falling to Anthony VanOyen from the College of Wooster by an 8-2 margin in the round of 16.
