Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer posts shutout win over Wabash College

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team secured a 4-0 victory over Wabash College on Saturday, September 27 at Neis Field. The Titans now hold a 6-1-2 record in non-conference play, while Wabash falls to 4-6-0.

Illinois Wesleyan opened the scoring early in the fourth minute when junior Joey Rodino scored with an assist from junior Ryder Coleman and freshman Hunter Reingberg. Rodino's header gave the Titans a 1-0 lead.

Wabash maintained possession for much of the first half, but Illinois Wesleyan's defense held firm, preserving their lead into halftime.

In the second half, freshman Colby Thomas extended the lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute by finishing a rebound from senior Logan Tierney. Senior Christian Schmidt added another goal in the 83rd minute after connecting with Rodino during a set play off a throw-in.

Freshman Daniel Smazil scored the final goal following an assist from Tierney, beating his defender and goalkeeper.

Senior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior recorded his second shutout of the week, making five saves on eleven shots faced. One key save came in the 68th minute to maintain Illinois Wesleyan's momentum.

Tierney, Rodino, and Reinberg each had multi-point games. Rodino finished with one goal and one assist for a career-high three points. The Titans took ten shots overall, with four on target.

Illinois Wesleyan will have a week off before beginning conference play against Carthage College on Saturday, October 1 at 4 p.m., following the women's match.
