Illinois State Representative Dennis Tipsword Jr. has shared updates on several legislative and state initiatives in his recent e-newsletter.

He acknowledged the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for advancing efforts to help internationally trained physicians return to work in Illinois. "Thank you to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for their work on this bipartisan effort to get more of our internationally trained physician colleagues back to work and taking care of patients in Illinois." The new licensing process aims to make it easier for these medical professionals to serve local communities. More details are available at MyWabashValley.com.

Tipsword also highlighted the upcoming Fall Veto Session, which begins October 14, as an opportunity for residents to engage with legislators. He encouraged constituents to learn about submitting witness slips and participating in the legislative process through resources like The Caucus Blog of the Illinois House Republicans: How Citizens Can Engage with the Illinois Legislature.

Addressing property taxes, Tipsword stated that high tax rates and regulations challenge home ownership and growth in Illinois. He noted ongoing concerns about low housing inventory and rising prices, referencing coverage from Illinois housing stock remains woefully low, prices climbing.

On redistricting, he criticized current electoral maps: "Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats have disenfranchised voters across the state with rigged electoral maps. Illinois voters deserve fair maps that promote accountability, not one-party control." He cited a Tribune Editorial Board opinion piece: Editorial: With mostly powerless voters, Illinois democracy hangs by an elongated thread.

Regarding tax policy, Tipsword informed constituents about a tax amnesty period running from October 1 through November 17. Taxpayers can pay overdue state taxes without penalties or interest if paid in full during this window. This program follows legislation adopted by the General Assembly earlier this year; more information is provided by the Illinois Department of Revenue Announces 2025 Tax Amnesty Program.

For first responders, Tipsword announced that applications are open for the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Small Equipment Grant Program. Eligible fire departments and ambulance services may apply for part of $6 million designated for equipment purchases until November 14 via AmpliFund – State Fire Marshal – FY26 Small Equipment Grant.

He also mentioned support available through LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program), which assists qualifying families with utility costs such as gas, propane, and electricity. Applications opened October 1 and will be accepted until August 15, 2026 or until funds run out. Details can be found at Governor Pritzker Encourages Eligible Families to Apply for LIHEAP Utility Bill Assistance.

Tipsword was elected as a Republican representative in 2023 for the state's 105th House District after succeeding Dan Brady.
