The Illinois State Redbirds men's tennis team had a strong showing on the first day of the Redbird Invitational, held at the Gregory Street Courts in Normal, Illinois. Despite unseasonably warm weather for early October, the Redbirds secured three victories in doubles matches and 12 wins in singles play.

In doubles action, Tomas Valencia and Christian Capacci led with a 6-0 win over IU Indy's Solomon Dunsirn and Jai Dutta. The pair of Adrian Dibildox and Manuel Pavia also defeated IU Indy's Pumiphat Sukkho and CJ Kryscio by a score of 6-3. Caden Scarlett and Jett Leong rounded out the doubles wins for Illinois State with a 6-4 victory against Marquette's Vazquez duo.

During the opening singles session, Illinois State won six out of eight matches. Victories came from Valencia, Capacci, Dibildox, Tin Ostro, Leong, and Scarlett—all winning in straight sets. In the second round of singles play, the Redbirds continued their performance by winning six of seven matches played. Double winners on the day included Valencia, Capacci, Dibildox, Leong, and Scarlett. Manuel Pavia joined them with a win over NIU's Gustavo Juarez.

The tournament will conclude on Saturday starting at 9 a.m., featuring two rounds of doubles followed by a final round of singles matches. Admission is free to attendees.
