The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over Carroll University in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match held Friday, October 3, in Bloomington, Illinois. With this result, the Titans now hold a 6-2 overall record and are 2-2 in conference play. The Carroll Pioneers move to a 4-4 season record and are 3-3 within the CCIW.
Illinois Wesleyan took an early lead by winning all three doubles matches. Amber Ehrlich and Olivia Bell won their match against Natasa Pupovac and Katherine Trifilio with a score of 7-5. Katie Van Heuklon and Gabi Lipske earned a 6-3 win over Aalaiya Jacklin and Mia Franke at the second doubles spot. Adia Douglas and Elana Religioso completed the doubles sweep with a close 7-5 victory against Makayla Counsell and Nawal Souki.
In singles competition, each team won three matches. IWU's Olivia Bell tied the overall match at two apiece after her straight-set win over Makayla Counsell at fourth singles, finishing 6-4, 6-3. Elana Religioso put Illinois Wesleyan ahead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Katie Van Heuklon clinched the match for IWU by defeating Mia Franke in two sets, including a tiebreaker in the second set, to secure the final point.
The Titans will continue their conference schedule at home on Saturday, October 3, when they face Carthage College. The first serve is set for 10 a.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
