Illinois Wesleyan University sophomore Pablo Castro has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Golfer of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Wednesday, October 8. This is Castro’s first weekly honor and marks the third time this season a member of the Titans men’s golf team has received the award.

Castro achieved a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Preview held at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, from September 21 to 23. The tournament began with a round at Las Colinas, a par-71 course measuring 6,856 yards, followed by two rounds at El Campeon, a par-72 course stretching 6,750 yards. Over three rounds, Castro posted scores of 77, 70, and a career-best 64 for a total of 211 (four-under par), setting his personal best for a 54-hole event. His final-round score of 64 tied the program record for lowest single round.

In addition to his individual performance, Castro helped Illinois Wesleyan move up from 22nd place after the opening round to finish fourth overall in a field that included many of the top-ranked teams nationally. The Titans finished just four strokes behind tournament winner Emory University.

The Illinois Wesleyan men’s golf team will conclude its fall season at the Tartan Invitational in Philadelphia on October 13 and 14.
