The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team lost 3-2 to Wheaton College on Wednesday night at Neis Field, marking their first loss in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin this season. The Titans now hold a 7-2-2 overall record and are 1-1 in conference play, while Wheaton remains unbeaten in the CCIW with a 3-0 record and moves to 7-2-3 overall.

Wheaton opened the scoring 16 minutes into the match when Cooper Falling found the net from the left side of the box, sending a shot over Illinois Wesleyan's senior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior. Despite several attempts by IWU to equalize, including shots from junior Matthew Perchik and senior Kalabi Kamau, Wheaton extended its lead before halftime. Jack Jacquet delivered a cross from long range that ended up in the back of the net, making it 2-0 for Wheaton.

Illinois Wesleyan responded early in the second half with Ryder Coleman scoring his third goal of the season after receiving a header from junior Joey Rodino. However, Wheaton quickly regained their two-goal advantage as Reuban Bos scored moments later.

Throughout the second period, Illinois Wesleyan continued to create opportunities. Rodino and sophomore Ben Lyons both had chances but were unable to convert. With just over a minute left, Coleman scored again after receiving a pass from sophomore Gavin Young, bringing IWU within one goal. Despite pressing hard in the final moments, Illinois Wesleyan could not find an equalizer.

Both teams' goalkeepers were active during the game, each recording seven saves out of a combined total of 39 shots on goal. Kedzior's seven saves marked his highest tally for this season. Illinois Wesleyan outshot Wheaton with 21 attempts compared to Wheaton's 18.

The Titans will return to Neis Field for more conference play during Homecoming weekend as they face North Park University on Saturday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m.
