The Illinois State Redbirds women's tennis team completed the first day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Thursday at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign. Five ISU players participated in singles qualifying matches, but none advanced to the main draw.

Despite the early exits, Silvia Pomarolli and Nuria Sanz secured wins in the singles consolation round later in the day. The tournament will continue Friday with two rounds of doubles matches beginning at 8 a.m., followed by a round of singles in the main draw in the afternoon. ISU's Lana Caculovic is set to compete in the main draw, aiming to reach the round of 16 on Saturday.

The results from the singles qualifying round of 64 included defeats for ISU's Sophie Marie Lowe, Nuria Sanz, Nicole Iosio, Vittoria Benedetti, and Silvia Pomarolli. In the singles consolation round of 32, Pomarolli and Sanz earned victories, while Lowe and Benedetti were defeated again.
