On Friday, the Illinois State women's tennis team competed in the main draw rounds of singles and doubles at the 2025 ITA Midwest Regional, held at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.
The day's competition began with two rounds of doubles matches. Nuria Sanz and Siliva Pomarolli from Illinois State won their opening match against Aiyana Abbott and Luciana Mendoza of Marquette in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (3). However, their run ended in the round of 32 when they were defeated by Stefaniya Anikina and Margaux Guibal Britt from SIUE, 8-4.
Other Illinois State doubles teams faced early exits. Lana Caculovic and Vittoria Benedetti lost to Mariia Pukhina and Anna Belogliadova of Bradley University, 8-6. Sophie Marie Lowe and Nicole Iosio were defeated by Elizabeth Isyanov and Risa Ueno from the University of Illinois, 8-1.
In singles play, Lana Caculovic was eliminated in the round of 64 after losing to Laura Rahnel from the University of Michigan, 6-3, 6-2.
Main Draw Doubles Round of 16 matches are scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by Main Draw Singles Round of 32 matches starting at 10:30 a.m.
