The Illinois State men's golf team will conclude its fall season by participating in the Dayton Flyer Invitational, held at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio. The event is scheduled for Monday, October 20, and Tuesday, October 21.
The Redbirds will compete against a field that includes nationally ranked teams such as Illinois (18), Butler (81), Miami (Ohio) (114), Ball State (136), Toledo (142), Oakland (160), Loyola Chicago (174), Dayton (192), Wright State (197), Ohio (209), Marshall (224), Cleveland State (225), and DePaul (236). Illinois State enters the tournament with a national ranking of 102.
Representing Illinois State are TJ Barger, Pietro Pontiggia, Max Faucquez, Sam Ottwell, and Francis Bautista. Gonzalo Cuellar will compete as an individual.
Illinois State has previously participated in this tournament four times. In 2018, the team tied for second place. The Redbirds finished fourth in both 2017 and 2023. Last year, they recorded under-par scores in two of three rounds and posted back-to-back rounds of 280 (-4).
NCR Country Club features two courses designed by Dick Wilson. The South Course is recognized for its challenging layout and is currently ranked number 68 on Golfweek's Top 100 Classic list. Over nearly seven decades, it has hosted several major golf championships.
