Illinois Wesleyan men’s golf rises to fourth in final fall GCAA coaches poll

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team has advanced to fourth place in the final fall edition of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll, as announced on Friday, October 31.

The team's strong performance at the Tartan Invitational, hosted by Carnegie Mellon from October 13-14, contributed to their rise in the rankings. Illinois Wesleyan finished second at the event, three strokes behind Huntingdon College, which now holds the top spot in the national poll. Sophomore Joey Sluzas secured his second top-10 finish of the season with a one-under-par 71 in the final round and placed seventh overall.

Senior Aidan Healy led Illinois Wesleyan during its fall campaign with an average score of 72.5 per round across four tournaments. Healy received College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week honors twice: once after finishing second at the Frank Wrigglesworth Invite (September 14-15), and again following his third-place result at the Wabash Invite (October 6-7).

In this latest poll, Huntingdon moved into first place with 13 first-place votes and a total of 386 points. Emory University followed closely with three first-place votes and 384 points. Carnegie Mellon climbed to third with 353 points, while Illinois Wesleyan rose to fourth with 335 points. Mary Hardin-Baylor made a significant jump from sixteenth to fifth place.

Other teams rounding out the top ten include Sewanee, Methodist, Washington and Lee, Aurora, and Oglethorpe.

Illinois Wesleyan will announce its spring schedule on its men's golf page at iwusports.com.
