Olympia Community Unit School District 16 students suspended 21 times in a single school year

Olympia Community Unit School District 16 reported 21 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 21 students during the year. That equates to 1.1 percent of the 1,848 students enrolled.

Of the 18 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 14 incidents. There were three incidents of violence without physical injury. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. For one incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
