Dwight Common School District 232 students suspended 65 times in a single school year

Dwight Common School District 232 reported 65 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 65 students during the year. That equates to 11.6 percent of the 560 students enrolled.

Of the 46 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 26 incidents. There were 14 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 27 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.

Of the 19 out-of-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence that caused physical injury. The category includes nine incidents. There were seven incidents of unspecified reasons. For eight incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
