CITY OF CHENOA: Local Paper Article Regarding Recycling

Paperrecycle

City of Chenoa issued the following announcement on Dec. 19.

This notice is for informational purpose regarding a local paper article regarding recycling.

The city council has been in negotiations with Republic Services regarding the recyling in our current contract. A representative from R.S. Has been to multiple meetings to discuss the city’s options. He explained several.

It has become a troublesome problem for recyclers. They are asking for an increase in payment.

Among our options were that we completely do away with it. We could force the current contract and just say no to any price increase, however this could be met with them coming to us and taking it away anyway. Another could have been to allow them to continue to collect it, take it to the dump and pay for that tonage at a cost to us. We can accept the increase and pass this charge on to each resident as yet another.

The council is working hard to ask for certain changes to the legal language. We have all been asking the community if we should keep recycling. The majority have said that they would appreciate keeping it even at a small increase in cost.

We highly encourage you to please call city hall and leave your council members a message to speak with you regarding this or any other concerns. We make the best choices we can to help everyone. Your opinions help us choose how we handle different subjects.

Thank you for taking time to read this. We hope it has helped to inform you on this situation.
