City of Pontiac Public Library Board of Trustees met October 8

Meeting 07

City of Pontiac Public Library Board of Trustees met Oct. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The roll call was answered by Nancy Milhauser, Lisa Martin, Connie Snyder, Curt Myers and Kathy McLean. Also present was director, Kristin Holzhauer.

Consent Agenda:

Trustees reviewed the minutes and paid bills from September. Curt Myers moved to accept the minutes and bills as presented. Nancy Milhauser seconded. All were in favor, motion carried.

Correspondence: None Director’s Report:

• Volunteer hours total: 20

• the library participated in pop-up museum located at the farmers’ market featuring the history of the Pontiac Prison Farm. The library provided story times, crafts and tables. Many thanks to Ed and JoanE Lipinski for helping with event.

• Gems Carpet Cleaning cleaned the entire carpet. From now on, cleaning will be done on a monthly rotation to better maintain the carpet.

• The vacuum cleaner needs to be replaced. Kristin is looking into purchasing a commercial grade machine.

• Diaz Sign Art installed the Living Bookshelf Mural. Much appreciation to the Diaz family, Rick Rambo, Hoffrichter’s Lumber and the Hoover family for contributions to complete this project. This fund-raiser has already been very successful.

• School visits to issue library cards to all students occurred during the first week of October. 

Weekly book deliveries will begin mid-October.

• Ed Lipinski repaired the front display case which made it more easily accessible and safer to use. We greatly appreciate Ed’s constant generous donation of time and expertise to the library.

• The open house was very successful and a great way to show off the new mural. We will be exploring other opportunities to host events at the library to foster a stronger relationship with the city counsel and community members.

• Interviews will begin soon to hire a part-time Heartland student.

Committee Updates:

Building and Grounds – nothing to report

Management Committee – nothing to report

Finance Committee – nothing to report

Old Business: None New Business:

• The library will be participating in the Jolly Trolley Event on November 10. The degree of participation will be limited due to staffing concerns.

• The building phones need to be replaced. The city is switching to a Voice Over Internet Phone (VOIP) soon. Kristin will consult with Bob Carls about being part of this program.

Executive Session: Curt moved to go into executive session, Lisa seconded. Personnel matter discussed. Nancy moved to leave executive session, Lisa seconded.

Closing Comments:

Connie would appreciate board members letting Kristin know by Monday morning of the board meeting day if they cannot attend the meeting. Kristin will send out board meeting reminder emails.

Lisa Martin made a motion to adjourn. Nancy seconded. All in favor, meeting adjourned at 6:50pm.
