City of Fairbury City Council met Jan. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Gerald Hoffman and Lynn Dameron. Bill Schmidgall was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Dameron, second by Hoffman

to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the December 18, , council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

→ Chief of Police Robert McCormick swore in full-time Police Officer Cody Fosdick

→ ESDA Director Deb Moran gave each council member a handout illustrating a map of Dave’s Supermarket entrances/exits

→ Moran also asked for future discussions regarding a potential tornado shelter

6. Reports of Departments

→ Street Superintendent/Fire Chief Steidinger was absent

→ Sewer Superintendent Duncan reported was absent

→ Water Superintendent Mellott – no report

→ Chief of Police McCormick – no report

→ City Superintendent Ashburn reported

• Thanked Diane Pawlowski for notifying the City of a defective trash can lid

→ City Attorney Mann reported

• The Forrest contract should be fully executed next week

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton said he’s glad to be back and is feeling better

→ Alderman Kinate asked Chief McCormick about presenting Officer Fosdick with a challenge coin; Chief McCormick said he would present it to Officer Fosdick privately

→ Alderman Weber – no report

→ Alderman Hoffman scheduled an Executive Session Police and Finance committees meeting for Tuesday, January 14, 2020 @ 6 p.m.

→ Alderman Dameron – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall was absent

8. Items Removed from Consent Agenda – NONE

9. Old Business – Discussion/Action Items - NONE

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Dameron to approve Alexandria Voorheis as a check signer at Bank of Pontiac, Busey Bank, Morton Community Bank and First State Bank of Forrest. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

B. Motion by Kinate, second by Weber to approve the purchase of new desks, one from Amazon in the amount of $1,098.86 and one from Fairbury Furniture in the amount of $1,470.96, for a total of $2,569.82. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

11. Other Items for Discussion & Information

Mayor Slagel purchased a firewall security program for the computers at City Hall

12. Public Comment - NONE

13. Motion by Dameron, second by Kinate to enter Executive Session at 6:52 p.m.

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

PERSONNEL – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee).

Motion by Norris, second by Kinate to enter Open Session at 7:01 p.m. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

ACTION FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION - NONE

14. Adjournment – Motion by Dameron, second by Kinate to adjourn @ 7:01 p.m.
