City of Pontiac City Council Committee of the Whole met March 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The Committee of the Whole meeting of the Pontiac City Council was held on Monday, March 9, 2020 in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Mayor Alvey called to order the meeting at 6:00 P.M.

The City Clerk was directed to call roll, and the following members of the Council were present: Barr, Swanson, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor and Wille.

Agenda

2020-2021 Budget Preparation

Dave Wilson. Building & Zoning, reviewed 2019. There were 321 permits issued which resulted in $41,043.00 in fees for the permits. Worked with the new sewer plant project and the Wally’s project with regards to permits, etc. Worked strongly in the inspections of buildings and violations, trying to make the City safe and clean.

Chief Jim Woolford presented to the Committee a review of the past year in the Police department. There were no complaints on police officers, good relationships with partnerships and City departments, and has established a professional sworn department. There are currently (17) officers and (2) Administration. Would like to have another officer. The department recently offered testing and only (6) replied. The department would like to prioritize life safety issues and continue to improve community outreach and education.

Chief Jacob Campbell presented to Committee the past year recap of 2019. Discussed was personnel changes in retirements and promotions, collaborations with businesses such as Caterpillar, Wallmart and Enbridge for grants to purchase equipment and or train firefighters. Chief talked about the (3) major emergencies in 2019 and the non- emergency programs such as the car seat program and the safety house. Also for the upcoming year will be the smoke detector program and public CPR courses. The department has plans to upgrade EMS services to provide Advance Life Support non transport care for the City. This would have fire personnel training to Advanced Life Support non transport level by 2022 and they have applied for a equipment grant for a cardiac monitor.
