Illinois State University proposed not to increase tuition or room and board fees for the 2020-21 school year, with trustees being expected to vote on the plan in May.
University staff gave their 1.97% increase proposal to trustees at a board meeting, WGLT reported in late April. Illinois State University President Larry Dietz said this is less than the typical 2% to 5% annual increase.
With the 1.97% increase, tuition at the university will rise to $25,169 for the 2020-21 school year from this year's $24,682. This would make the difference less than $500, according to WGLT.
“We have to remain in the forefront on educational technology,” Dietz told WGLT. “Virtual learning platforms are something we really need to invest in. Moving all the courses online this spring has demonstrated we need more virtual computer labs, Zoom and other technological enhancements.”
The increase would still bring an additional $7.7 million for the university, WGLT reported.
