City of Fairbury City Council met April 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall.

3. Mayor Slagel took roll call of all other attendees which included: City employees

Brett Ashburn, City Superintendent and Nancy Widlacki, City Clerk; business owners Joanna Meister, owner of J Marie’s Salon and Day Spa and Joni and Dayton Kilgus, owners of The Spotted Owl; Adam Dontz, CEO of the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council and Kent Casson, President of Casson Media.

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Dameron to approve Resolution No. 2020-4-27 in support of Fair Housing. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

B. Motion by Endres, second by Norris to approve Resolution No. 2020-4-27-A in support of the Community Development Block Grant Program for J Marie’s Salon and Day Spa. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

C. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Kinate to approve Resolution No. 2020-4-27-B in support of the Community Development Block Grant Program for The Spotted Owl. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

D. Motion by Kinate, second by Endres to approve Motor Fuel projects in the amount of $145,000. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

7. Other Items for Discussion & Information 

 NONE

8. Public Comment

✓ Alderman Dameron commented on the Small Business Administration offering

loans to small businesses again and is hopeful that some of the small businesses in our municipality will get funded if they choose to apply again 

✓ Alderman Hoffman offered that his company was funded but he had some issues with the federal paperwork because it kept changing during the application process 

✓ City Superintendent Brett Ashburn stated the railroad is in town and is working to repair crossings at 3rd Street, 7th Street and 1st Street

9. Adjournment – Motion by Dameron, second by Kinate to adjourn @ 6:29 p.m.
