City of Fairbury City Council met June 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber and Gerald Hoffman were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the May 20, 2020, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. Sidewalk/Off-Street Parking requests as suggested by the Street Superintendent

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Dameron Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

NONE

6. Reports of Departments

→ Street Superintendent/Fire Chief Steidinger was absent

→ Sewer Superintendent Duncan – no report

→ Water Superintendent Mellott – no report

→ Chief of Police McCormick – no report, however, the Mayor thanked Chief

McCormick and his department for their efforts in serving our community during these unprecedented times

→ City Superintendent Ashburn asked the council to discuss whether or not to open the pool if the Illinois Department of Public Health allows opening. The council agreed unanimously to prepare to open

→ City Attorney Mann reported that the dogs and unkempt property issues from last year have finally been resolved

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton asked Sewer Superintendent Duncan when N. Jackson Street would be landscaped

→ Alderman Kinate – no report

→ Alderman Weber was absent

→ Alderman Hoffman was absent

→ Alderman Dameron reported on a complaint received from a constituent regarding flooding in his backyard

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

8. Items Removed from Consent Agenda – NONE

9. Old Business – Discussion/Action Items - NONE

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Enders to approve a quote to replace the panel for the fire alarm system at City Hall in the amount of $2,629 from Bennett Electronic Service Co.

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Dameron Schmidgall

B. Motion by Dameron, second by Norris to approve Ordinance No. 2020-3 amending Chapter 7 of the Municipal Code Book of the City of Fairbury in relation to Solicitors.

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Dameron Schmidgall

C. Consideration of a request from Crazy Crain’s bar – NO ACTION TAKEN; Mayor Slagel will speak with Mr. & Mrs. Crain to get a better understanding of their request

D. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoselton to approve Resolution No. 2020-6-3 reappointing John Tollensdorf, Jim Munz and Shirley Mitchell as Trustees of Dominy Memorial Library. 

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Dameron Schmidgall

14. Adjournment - Motion by Dameron, second by Kinate to adjourn at 7:09 p.m.
