City of Fairbury City Council met Sept. 16.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.
2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber absent.
3. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Dameron, second by Kinate to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:
A. Minutes from the September 2, 2020, council meeting
B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills
C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)
D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)
E. NONE
F. Overtime Report

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:
Mayor Slagel presented BSA EAGLE SCOUT JACOB LEVELLE MAY with a proclamation declaring October 11, 2020, as JACOB LEVELLE MAY DAY
6. Reports of Departments
→ Street Superintendent/Fire Chief reported
• The Fire Department received a nice donation from the Dean Moser Estate
• Will be trying again for a grant to help offset the cost of turnout gear
→ Sewer Superintendent Duncan reported
• There are a couple sewer replacements that need to be done; Ash Street between Jackson & Calhoun and Elm Street
→ Water Superintendent Mellott was absent
→ Chief of Police McCormick reported
• The Master Sergeant will be here soon to pick up 5 seized vehicles; 5 other vehicles are the responsibility of the City of Fairbury
→ City Superintendent Ashburn reported
• The State of Illinois has released the Downstate Stabilization Grant funds and will be forwarded to J. Marie’s Salon and Spa and The Spotted Owl, both of whom made application for these grant funds
• Looking at improving the sidewalk outside the Walton Centre
→ City Attorney Mann was absent

B. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoffman to approve the 2019-2020 Audit Report.

A. Mayor Slagel shared a handout from City Treasurer Dale Diller, a state and property taxes comparison from 2019-2020 fiscal YTD to 2020-2021 fiscal YTD; commented that Fairbury is in good shape
