City of Fairbury City Council met Jan. 20

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall.

3. NONE

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoffman to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the January 6, 2021, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 8-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Chief was absent 

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent was absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief – no report

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported

• The City’s mobile app will be released sometime in February

• The plan is to open City Hall again on February 1st

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton asked about the Criminal Justice Reform bill regarding police officers and departments

→ Alderman Kinate encouraged the council to read an article in the IML Review magazine about creating a quiet zone for trains. He also asked about a camper parked behind the library and wondered if it is leaving

→ Alderman Weber – no report

→ Alderman Hoffman – no report

→ Alderman Dameron – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Norris to approve pay request #30 in the amount of $144,309.59. Motion carried8-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

B. Motion by Weber, second by Dameron to approve a quote from K&S Ford to purchase a 2021 squad car in the amount of $35,015. Motion carried 8-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall
