Former Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady has his hands full.
While entertaining a return to politics, Brady faces an eviction suit in Palm Beach, Fla., that alleges he owes upward of $60,000 in unpaid back rent at a Jimmy John’s restaurant he owns with family members. The suit seeks to have Brady evicted from the property.
After serving the 44th District nearly two decades, Brady walked in 2020 after being removed as Senate Floor leader. He also previously served in the House and ran for governor on three different occassions.
Brady said his attempted comeback will more than likely involve a run for statewide office, mentioning secretary of state, the governor’s mansion or U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth’s seat as possibilities.
“I’m interested in public service, and I’m entertaining different ways I can serve,” he told WCIA.com.
Brady’s woes in Florida hardly mark the first time he’s run into legal issues. He was in bankruptcy court as recently as 2019 and several Republican lawmakers were outraged over the way he kept control over the more than $800,000 he had in his campaign at the time of his retirement.
A real estate developer by trade, Brady’s one-time financial interests in the video gambling industry while still serving in Springfield raised eyebrows among many across the state.
At the time of his retirement, Brady vowed to remain active in politics and hinted that he could one day again see himself seeking public office.
