Coronavirus Update, November 4, 2021

21

Illinois State University issued the following announcement on Nov. 4

The following message provides an update on fall break, upcoming on-campus vaccination clinics, access to COVID-19 vaccinations on-campus, and general Fall 2021 Illinois State University health and safety standards applicable to the University community for students, faculty, and staff.

Health and safety standards are subject to change and are adopted as a part of the University’s COVID-19 prevention and mitigation strategies as recommended by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

For the most up-to-date information about the University’s approach to COVID-19, email Coronavirus@IllinoisState.edu or visit the Coronavirus website.

Fall Break

As Fall Break nears, Illinois State will follow the published fall academic calendar. The break will begin Saturday, November 20, and classes will resume Monday, November 29.

In addition, during her September 21, 2021, State of the University address, President Kinzy announced an Administrative Closure Day this year on November 24, 2021, for the University to have “a chance as a community to refresh.”

Remain diligent as end of semester nears

As late fall descends on the Midwest, cooler temperatures will increase indoor activities on- and off-campus.  It continues to be extremely important that members of the campus community follow all indoor face covering requirements. In addition, until vaccination records are received, students, faculty, and staff are required to remain in compliance with weekly COVID-19 testing.

“We must continue to be vigilant. Viruses do not take a break. This is not the time to let our guard down,” said President Terri Goss Kinzy, a biochemist who studied mRNA for decades. “I urge everyone to continue to adhere to health and safety standards, including wearing face coverings while inside. We want a strong finish to the semester.”

More information will be provided next week regarding testing locations and hours during the upcoming break periods. Visit the Coronavirus website for the most up-to-date information about COVID-19 testing.

On-campus COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

A vaccine clinic will take place on November 18 and 19 in the Bone Student Center Prairie Room. This clinic will be for those who received a first dose at the October 18 and 19 clinics and anyone who is eligible for a third dose or booster.

Please note that the IDPH site is incorrectly listing the second date as November 20. The ISU clinic dates are November 18 and November 19.

Vaccination appointments are available. Sign up via the Coronavirus website.

More information regarding eligibility for a third dose or booster is available on the IDPH website.

COVID-19 vaccine at Student Health Services

Pfizer first and second doses only will be available at Student Health Services for students on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Students can make first-dose appointments through the secure patient health portal. For second dose appointments, please call (309) 438-2778.
